Falcons Fall to Legacy, End Season 10-3

The amazing turnaround season for the North Forney Falcons ended in disappointing fashion on Saturday evening as the Mansfield Legacy Broncos outlasted the Falcons 45-35 at Allen Eagle Stadium.

The Falcons never quit in this contest and they played to the final whistle, which can be attributed to the “Tough People Win” attitude that Head Coach Randy Jackson brought with him in his first year at North Forney.  It’s been well documented what Coach Jackson has done in his coaching career at Poteet and Grapevine before taking over at North Forney this past year.

His impact was felt from day one, and this season was historic on a number of levels for the program and the school. I originally was going to break down yesterdays game, but rethought that idea when I thought about all the amazing things we saw this year from the Falcons….

Or should I say, Goons?

Here is a full list of the accomplishments of the 2017 North Forney Falcons Football Team:

  • First ever win over Poteet
  • First ever win over West Mesquite
  • First ever win over Forney
  • First ever 5A Playoff Appearance
  • First ever 5A Bi-District Championship
  • First ever 5A Area Championship
  • Most prolific scoring offense in the history of Forney. (NFHS or FHS)
  • Only the 2nd time in Texas Football history a player accounted for 10 Touchdowns in the same game
  • The First ever true “identity” was defined in Goonville, TX that brought an entire community together

When future generations look back on the culture, accomplishments, and standards set by this team, 2017 will be looked at as the year everything changed on the North side.  These Falcons will be known as the standard by which all future Falcons will be judged.

As a community, we witnessed this change first hand and people will talk about the “Original Goons” for a long, long time. These young men exceeded expectations and blew through all the naysayers, all the doubters, and made their presence known week in and week out.

In ten years, people will be sitting around Mama’s Daughters talking football, and they will say things like “You guys remember when Colby Suits and those Falcons scored 35 or more points in ever game that year?” and we will all smile, nod and laugh as we remember the excitement of watching this offense.

We will talk about the defensive prowess of guys like Devon Beamon and Willie Thomas.  We will talk about the amazing catches made by Jordan Carroll, Jackson Ennels, Jaydyn Barrall, Corey Mayfield Jr and Barclay Ford.  We will talk about the workhorse Calvin Ribera and his 2000+ yard season.

Most importantly, we will talk about how these boys grew into men and leaders under the direction of Coach Randy Jackson.  While we wish these Seniors well, it’s a short break and then back to the grindstone for the next generation of Blue Collar Birds!

One thing is for sure, all of us at KFNY Sports are excited about 2018 and we look forward to being right there with the Falcons every step of the way right here in Goonville, Texas.

Well said, and thank you for bringing it to us on days when we couldn’t go to the game. Extra kudos that it’s not just football! My son is in The Pride, so it was always nice to be able to hear them during halftime when I wasn’t there (and you were close enough for the mics to pick them up.) Did you know that yesterday after the loss yesterday to Legacy, the coach brought the whole team over to the band to thank them for all their support this year? Classy move, and one that shows that “the Goons” are everywhere, not just on the field! Thanks for a great year “in all three phases”…
